Preparing For Breast Lift with Implants
Preparing for a breast lift with implants at our practice in NYC involves several key steps to ensure optimal results and a smooth recovery. Patients should schedule a comprehensive augmentation and breast lift consultation to discuss their goals, medical history, and any concerns. During this initial consultation, Dr. Broumand will perform a thorough examination, explain the procedure in detail, and review his recommended breast lift technique. Preoperative instructions will be provided, which may include ceasing certain medications, quitting smoking, and adjusting lifestyle habits to promote healing. Patients should arrange for transportation on the day of surgery and plan for postoperative care and support during recovery. The Augmentation-Mastopexy Procedure
The augmentation-mastopexy is an outpatient cosmetic surgery performed in our state-of-the-art operating room within our surgery center in Manhattan. It can be performed as a single operation or in two separate stages, though the latter is typically only necessary for patients who desire a large implant in addition to requiring a particularly extensive amount of tissue excision. When conducted simultaneously, a “lollipop” incision encircling the areola and continuing down to the inframammary fold in the breast crease is first made. Excess skin is then removed, and breast tissues are raised to a higher position on the chest wall. If needed and/or desired, the nipple-areolar complexes can be resized and repositioned at this time. Once the tissues are lifted, the chosen breast implants are meticulously inserted and placed using the Keller Funnel™. This “no-touch” technique allows Dr. Broumand to position implants underneath the muscle without coming into contact with any bacteria-laced tissues or materials, therefore decreasing the risk of issues such as infection and/or capsular contracture.
When the implants are properly situated and an ideal breast contour has been created, the skin is pulled taut and carefully reattached with sutures below the curvature of the breasts. Performed under general anesthesia, the entire augmentation-mastopexy procedure takes approximately two to three hours to complete, and patients are usually able to return home later the same day with the help of a close friend or family member.
Recovery from Breast Lift with Implants
During the recovery period following a breast lift with implants procedure, some degree of swelling, soreness, and/or bruising may occur, but these side effects should gradually resolve over time. Postoperative pain is rare, though any discomfort experienced can generally be controlled with over-the-counter medication. To aid healing, a special supportive bra, also known as a surgical bra, will need to be worn initially, and patients are advised to refrain from any strenuous exercise or physical activities for at least four weeks. However, the majority of women are able to resume office jobs and non-strenuous daily routines within about one week of their treatment. In the event the procedure is performed in two separate stages, the recovery and post-surgical instructions will be similar to what can be expected for breast augmentation and mastopexy on their own.
Who is a good candidate for augmentation mastopexy?
Ideal candidates are women who experience sagging breasts with loss of volume, desire increased breast size and elevation, are in good overall health, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes.
What types of implants are available, and how do I choose?
Implants come in various shapes, sizes, and materials. During your consultation, we’ll discuss options like saline or silicone implants, round or teardrop-shaped, and help you choose based on your body type, aesthetic goals, and personal preferences.
Will there be visible scarring after the procedure?
Incisions are carefully planned to minimize visible scarring. Surgical techniques vary depending on the extent of the lift and implant placement. Scars typically fade over time and can be concealed under clothing or swimwear.
Are there risks associated with the breast lift with implants procedure?
