Throughout his medical career, Stafford R. Broumand, MD has always held humanitarian work in high regard. Despite differing politics or regional variances throughout the nation and the world, he firmly believes people who are in a position to provide assistance to underprivileged and less fortunate individuals should aim to do so when possible. As testament to this belief, Dr. Broumand annually consults with APROQUEN to help in future reconstructive surgeries for Central American children suffering from severe burns and the subsequent disfigurations resulting from these injuries.
Established in 1991, APROQUEN is a philanthropic organization devoted to providing free and comprehensive medical care to pediatric burn victims in Nicaragua. In addition, APROQUEN offers inclusive complimentary care to children who have cleft lip and cleft palate, as well as technical expertise all across Central America. Backed by his extensive Fellowship training in burn reconstruction at Shriners Burns Institute, Dr. Broumand has a great understanding of and sympathy for children and adolescents whose lives have been impacted by serious burns. In an attempt to help those in need, he makes yearly trips to Nicaragua with APROQUEN to volunteer his knowledge and skillset to the foundation’s Burn Center by advising on burn reconstruction procedures.
