Lip Augmentation and Contouring
The appearance of one’s lips can have a significant impact on their entire facial aesthetic. For individuals who feel their lips are too thin and/or lack definition, our New York City plastic surgeon— Stafford R. Broumand, MD—offers advanced lip enhancement procedures to help augment and contour the lips for a fuller, more sensual look. Depending on your cosmetic goals, our doctor can utilize fillers such as JUVÉDERM® Volbella and/or fat injections to achieve the desired lip shape and definition, helping to complement or even accentuate your beauty with natural-looking results.
What Can Lip Augmentation Do for Me?
Based on your unique aesthetic needs and desires, lip augmentation can help:
- Add volume to the lips
- Enhance lip definition
- Improve the overall contour of the lips
- Rejuvenate aging lips
The Lip Augmentation Procedure
To enhance the shape and volume of the lips, Dr. Broumand can use injectable fillers (such as JUVÉDERM® Volbella, JUVÉDERM® Ultra, BELOTERO BALANCE®, or Restylane®), fat grafting, or a combination of both fillers and fat injections. During the lip augmentation procedure, the pre-determined injectable product will be carefully delivered along the natural curve of the lip via an advanced Dermasculpt® Microcannula. Composed of a thin, hollow instrument and fine-tipped needle, the Dermasculpt® Microcannula is designed to help our doctor administer the injections with optimal comfort and precision, ultimately reducing any potential pain and/or bruising that may be experienced. In fact, most patients do not even need a topical anesthetic to alleviate discomfort during treatment.
On average, the entire procedure generally takes about 30 minutes to complete, allowing many individuals to receive lip augmentation on their lunchbreak. (Treatment may be longer when fat grafting is involved, as fat cells will first need to be extracted from another area of the body and filtered before reinjection into the lips.)
Lip Augmentation Results
Following the lip augmentation procedure, some degree of bruising and/or swelling may be apparent, though these symptoms should be temporary and are typically limited due to our plastic surgeon’s meticulous technique. Normal, non-strenuous daily routines—e.g. office jobs, running errands, etc.—can usually be resumed within a day, if not immediately. However, vigorous exercise and other physical activities should be avoided for at least 24 hours. Depending on the specific filler or combination of injectable products utilized, lip augmentation results often last anywhere from six months to a year. For those who received fat injections, the effects of treatment may last even longer. To maintain an ideal outcome, follow-up visits are generally recommended on an as needed basis.
